Who we are

Behind NOMA all the way

The Co-operative Group is the world’s largest consumer co-operative with six million members and 109,000 employees

It operates more than 5,000 shops and branches across the UK, in diverse businesses including food retail, banking, insurance, funerals and pharmacy.

The Co-operative Group, part of the Manchester story for 150 years, thrives today on its socially responsible model of commercial enterprise. NOMA will build on what is already great about the city and place the Group’s  founding principle - of profit for a purpose, putting people and communities first – at it’s heart.

The Co-operative Estates is one of the largest and most diverse land and property operations in the UK, with interests that span both retailing, property investment and land development.

The portfolio under management consists of c7,500 properties and 20,000 acres of land, including the Group's 5000 trading properties operating across the food retail, pharmacy, funerals and banking sectors.

Estates also manage the Co-operative Group's property investment portfolio, its surplus property portfolios, services provision, the renewables business, and development sites.

The Co-operative Group HQ

The Co-operative Group is currently investing over £100 million in developing its new head office in Manchester. This will be the first phase of NOMA, the wider Masterplan development for the Group’s 20 acre complex and land holdings in Manchester’s city centre.

Construction began on the BREEAM Outstanding 328,000 sq ft head office building for The Co-operative Group which will herald a new era in the Group’s 150 year relationship with the city. The building, one of the anchors of the development, is the first phase of the wider scheme and demonstrates the Group’s commitment to the NOMA vision. Completion is scheduled for September 2012.
